Yas Island Is Getting a New Community Park Designed for Families, Neighbours and Everyday Moments
Yas Island is set to welcome a new community destination that goes beyond playgrounds and green spaces. Yas Community Park, a new project by the Department of Community Development (DCD) and Aldar, is being created as a place where residents and visitors can spend time together, connect with their neighbours and enjoy everyday experiences in a welcoming outdoor setting.
Positioned between Yas Island’s popular attractions and its growing residential neighbourhoods, the park is designed to become a natural meeting point for the community. Whether it’s families enjoying an afternoon outdoors, children making new friends, or residents joining local activities, the space aims to make connection part of everyday life.
At the heart of the park will be Nabdh Yas, a dedicated community hub that will host a year-round programme of workshops, family activities, cultural events, volunteering opportunities and community-led initiatives. Designed to welcome everyone-from children and young adults to parents and senior residents-the hub will provide a space where people can learn new skills, participate in local programmes and build stronger community connections.
The project also introduces a first for Abu Dhabi, with private sector investment helping deliver community infrastructure through a partnership between Aldar and the Department of Community Development. Following its launch on Yas Island, the Nabdh Community Hub model is expected to expand across Aldar developments in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, creating more neighbourhood spaces focused on inclusion and social wellbeing.
Yas Community Park has been planned with accessibility at its core. Visitors can expect an inclusive playground designed so children of all abilities can play together, shaded family-friendly areas, landscaped outdoor spaces, a mosque and a selection of retail outlets that will serve both the local community and small businesses.
The new park also forms an important part of the Yas Inclusive City initiative, a long-term collaboration between Aldar and DCD that aims to make Yas Island a global example of accessible and inclusive urban living. Inspired by the UAE’s Year of Family, the project places a strong emphasis on creating spaces that encourage togetherness, strengthen neighbourhood connections and support wellbeing across generations.
While Yas Island is already known for its world-class attractions and entertainment, Yas Community Park will offer something different-a place designed for everyday life. Rather than being a destination visitors simply pass through, it is envisioned as a neighbourhood hub where families gather after school, friends meet for community events, children play freely and residents feel part of a connected community.
The opening of Nabdh Yas will also build on the success of the wider Nabdh Community Hub network across Abu Dhabi, which has already hosted hundreds of community programmes and activities in collaboration with government entities, private organisations and non-profit partners, bringing together thousands of residents from across the emirate.
