Louvre Abu Dhabi Unveils a New Season of Art, Culture and Global Stories for 2026-2027
Louvre Abu Dhabi has unveiled its 2026-2027 exhibition season, inviting visitors on a journey that spans continents, centuries and cultures. From immersive family experiences and the fascinating history of the Indian Ocean’s trade routes to contemporary art from the GCC and India, and powerful stories of cultural heritage preservation, the museum’s latest programme celebrates the connections that have shaped humanity across time.
Designed for visitors of all ages, the new season combines archaeology, history, contemporary art and interactive learning, reinforcing Louvre Abu Dhabi’s role as one of the region’s leading cultural destinations. Alongside four major exhibitions, the museum will also host an extensive programme of talks, workshops, performances, film screenings and educational experiences throughout the year.
Exhibition Calendar
The season opens on 18 July 2026 with A Board Game Adventure, an interactive exhibition at the Children’s Museum running until April 2027. Featuring around 30 objects from Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection alongside international loans, the exhibition explores the fascinating history of games including chess, ludo, carrom and mancala, revealing how they travelled across civilisation’s from ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia to become timeless favourite’s enjoyed around the world. Through storytelling and hands-on experiences, young visitors can discover how play has connected cultures for thousands of years.
From 14 October 2026 to 14 February 2027, Spices and Wonders: Sailing the Indian Ocean, developed in partnership with the National Museum of Asian Arts – Guimet in France, explores more than 1,000 years of maritime exchange. Visitors can trace the movement of spices, textiles, ceramics and other valuable cargo as trade routes connected Africa, the Middle East, Europe, South Asia and Southeast Asia, shaping cultures, craftsmanship and global commerce from Antiquity to the 17th century.
Opening on 11 November 2026 and running until 28 February 2027, Art Here 2026: Confluences returns for its sixth edition in partnership with Richard Mille. Bringing together contemporary artists from the GCC and India, this year’s exhibition explores how migration, shared histories and cultural exchange continue to shape identity and everyday life. The exhibition will also culminate in the announcement of the prestigious Richard Mille Art Prize.
The season concludes with Living Legacies. Protecting Heritage. Building Hope, opening on 23 November 2026 and running until 25 April 2027. Created in partnership with ALIPH (International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage) to mark its 10th anniversary, the immersive exhibition highlights the inspiring work of communities protecting and restoring cultural heritage in some of the world’s most challenging environments. Through artefacts, multimedia installations and personal testimonies, visitors will gain insight into how preserving heritage can foster resilience, identity and hope.
Beyond the exhibitions, Louvre Abu Dhabi will offer a rich calendar of cultural programming designed to deepen engagement with its collections. Visitors can attend curator-led talks, symposiums, film screenings and live performances, while families can enjoy dedicated learning trails, children’s activity booklets and weekly creative workshops. Returning favourites such as Book and Easel, Drawing at the Museum, Quantum Dome Project, Art in Scents, and the immersive We Are Not Alone audio experience beneath the museum’s iconic dome will continue throughout the season, alongside podcasts and digital content that extend the museum experience beyond its galleries.
