EuroLeague SuperCup 2026: Your Guide to the Ultimate Basketball Weekend in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is preparing for a major weekend of European basketball as the first-ever Euroleague Basketball SuperCup arrives at Etihad Arena, Yas Island, on 18 and 19 September 2026.
Four elite clubs will compete across two evenings: reigning EuroLeague champion Olympiacos Piraeus, 2025 champion Fenerbahce Istanbul, 2026 finalist Real Madrid, and Dubai Basketball, representing the UAE.
But with games beginning at 6pm and 9pm GST, there’s plenty of time to explore Abu Dhabi before tip-off. From Yas Island’s theme parks and Saadiyat’s cultural attractions to waterfront dining and some of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks, here’s how to turn the tournament into a complete Abu Dhabi weekend.

First, What’s Happening at the EuroLeague SuperCup?
The inaugural competition follows a Final Four format, with two games taking place each evening.
On Friday, 18 September, Olympiacos Piraeus will face Fenerbahce Istanbul, followed by Dubai Basketball taking on Real Madrid.
The action continues on Saturday, 19 September, beginning with the third-place game before the weekend culminates in the first-ever Euroleague Basketball SuperCup Final.

Once your tickets are sorted, here’s what to do with the rest of your weekend.
1. Start with an Adrenaline Rush on Yas Island
If basketball isn’t quite enough excitement for one weekend, you don’t need to travel far from Etihad Arena to find more.
Spend the morning tackling the rides at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, head indoors for family-friendly adventures at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, or escape September’s heat with a few hours at Yas Waterworld.
Motorsport fans can take the sporting theme even further at Yas Marina Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where selected experiences provide the opportunity to get behind the wheel on the circuit.
The advantage of staying on Yas Island is convenience-you can fit in an attraction during the day before heading back towards Etihad Arena for the evening games.
2. Head to Yas Bay Waterfront Before or After the Game
With Etihad Arena located directly at Yas Bay Waterfront, this is one of the easiest places to build your pre – and post-game plans.
The waterfront promenade offers a broad selection of restaurants, ranging from relaxed bites to more refined dining experiences.
Book an early meal before the 6pm tip-off, or save dinner for after the games and make the evening last a little longer.
For anyone visiting Abu Dhabi specifically for the SuperCup, Yas Bay is also a convenient way to experience the city’s dining and nightlife without adding much travel time to the itinerary.
3. Spend the Afternoon Exploring Saadiyat’s Cultural District
If your ideal weekend mixes sport with culture, dedicate a few hours to Saadiyat Island before returning to Yas for the games.
Start with Louvre Abu Dhabi and its distinctive dome, or opt for something more immersive at teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.
You can also explore the natural world at Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi or discover the story of the UAE through Zayed National Museum.
With several major cultural institutions concentrated within the Saadiyat Cultural District, you don’t necessarily need to spend the entire day museum-hopping. Pick the one that interests you most, enjoy a slower afternoon and then make your way to Yas Island for tip-off.
4. Tick Off an Iconic Abu Dhabi Landmark
First time in Abu Dhabi? Make room for at least one of the capital’s landmarks.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the city’s most recognisable destinations and offers visitors an introduction to Islamic architecture, craftsmanship and the UAE’s cultural heritage.
Another option is Qasr Al Watan, the Presidential Palace, where visitors can explore its architecture, halls and exhibitions.
If your schedule allows, stay into the evening for Palace in Motion, the palace’s light and sound experience-but make sure the timing doesn’t clash with your SuperCup game.
5. Choose a Hotel Close to Etihad Arena
If basketball is the main reason for your trip, staying on Yas Island makes the weekend considerably easier.
W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island and Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island are two convenient options, keeping you close to Etihad Arena as well as Yas Island’s restaurants and attractions.
You don’t necessarily have to stay on Yas, though.
Al Raha Beach is approximately a 15-minute drive away, while Saadiyat Island is around 20–25 minutes away, making it an appealing alternative if you want to combine basketball with beaches, resorts and cultural attractions.
Make a Weekend of the SuperCup
The biggest advantage of the SuperCup’s evening schedule is that you don’t have to choose between watching basketball and exploring Abu Dhabi.
A simple itinerary could mean Yas Island attractions on Friday morning, lunch at Yas Bay and the opening games that evening, followed by Saadiyat Island or an Abu Dhabi landmark on Saturday before returning to Etihad Arena for the third-place game and inaugural final.
Two nights of elite basketball might be what brings you to Abu Dhabi, but there is enough happening beyond the court to turn the tournament into a much bigger city break.
