Dubai Mallathon Brings Free Indoor Walking and Running to Ibn Battuta Mall
Looking for a way to keep your daily steps going without battling Dubai’s summer heat? Ibn Battuta Mall is turning its expansive indoor walkways into a fitness track as an official venue for the Dubai Mallathon 2026.
Running at the mall until 15 September 2026, the citywide initiative invites residents and visitors to walk or run indoors every morning from 6am to 10am, transforming one of Dubai’s best-known shopping destinations into an air-conditioned community fitness space.
The Dubai Mallathon was launched by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as a summer initiative encouraging people across the city to stay active through walking, running and family-friendly fitness activities.
Walk or Run Through Ibn Battuta Mall Every Morning
With six themed courts inspired by the journeys of legendary explorer Ibn Battuta, the mall already lends itself particularly well to long indoor walks.
During the Mallathon, its corridors become a dedicated route with separate walking and running lanes, distance markers and water refill stations positioned every 500 metres.
Sessions take place daily between 6am and 10am, giving participants the chance to get their workout completed before regular shopping and leisure plans begin.
The experience is open to residents and visitors across different fitness levels, making it suitable whether you’re a regular runner, working towards a daily step goal or simply looking for an easy way to introduce more movement into your routine.
A Competitive Race Adds to the Experience
Alongside the daily community sessions, Ibn Battuta Mall is hosting a flagship event with a more structured race format.
Participants can compete across three official distances, with lap-based racing, competitive timing and prizes for winners. Following the competitive element, the course opens for a wider community walk and run between 8:30am and 10am.
Those completing the main event receive a finisher medal, while category winners can take home gold, silver and bronze medals. Event T-shirts and digital certificates are also part of the experience.
Participating runners can additionally receive offers and goodies from stores around Ibn Battuta Mall, including complimentary eye tests from Al Jaber on selected dates.
Part of Dubai’s Citywide Mallathon
The Ibn Battuta Mall activation forms part of a much larger summer fitness programme taking place across Dubai.
Running under the “Move In Style” campaign banner, Dubai Mallathon is being held across seven malls from 15 June until 15 September 2026.
The concept is particularly suited to Dubai’s summer months: rather than letting high outdoor temperatures become a reason to exercise less, familiar indoor destinations are being repurposed as accessible spaces for movement.
And unlike joining a gym or signing up for a dedicated fitness programme, the Mallathon makes it relatively easy to participate as part of a normal morning routine.
Ibn Battuta Mall Expands Its Community Experiences
The Mallathon is also the latest in a series of lifestyle and entertainment activations taking place at Ibn Battuta Mall this year.
Recent additions and events have included Zamania by Leo & Loona, a manga-inspired sportainment concept, the Versus 3.0 gaming activation, and the mall’s 12K Walk to Unlock campaign organised in collaboration with the FITZE app.
The mall is also hosting Moon Walk performances as part of its Dubai Summer Surprises and back-to-school programming.
Together, the activities reflect an increasing focus on using shopping malls for experiences extending beyond traditional retail-from entertainment and gaming to community events and fitness.
For anyone looking to stay active through the final weeks of Dubai’s summer, the Dubai Mallathon provides another reason to swap the outdoor running track for an air-conditioned one.
