Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Sets Sail in Cinemas Across the Region on 17 July

After the global success of Oppenheimer, Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan returns to the big screen with The Odyssey, an ambitious new adaptation of Homer’s legendary epic that arrives in cinemas across the region on 17 July.

Shot entirely using IMAX film cameras across six countries, The Odyssey marks Nolan’s most visually ambitious project to date and the first time the Academy Award-winning director has filmed an entire feature in the premium format. Blending mythology, adventure and breathtaking cinematic scale, the film reimagines one of history’s greatest literary works for a modern audience.

Based on Homer’s timeless tale, the story follows Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, as he embarks on his long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters mythical creatures, powerful gods, dangerous temptations and extraordinary challenges in an epic story of courage, loyalty and survival that has captivated readers for centuries.

Leading the cast is Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland as his son Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Queen Penelope. The star-studded ensemble also includes Zendaya as the goddess Athena, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Charlize Theron as Calypso, Lupita Nyong’o in dual roles as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, Samantha Morton as Circe, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie, Corey Hawkins, Bill Irwin and Mia Goth.

For Nolan, adapting The Odyssey has been a long-held ambition. Widely regarded as one of the foundational works of Western literature, the epic has inspired countless stories over thousands of years, yet has never been realised on this scale as a modern blockbuster.

Behind the camera, Nolan reunites with many of the award-winning collaborators who helped bring Oppenheimer to life. The film features cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema, editing by Jennifer Lame, an original score by Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson, production design by Ruth De Jong, costume design by Ellen Mirojnick and visual effects supervised by Andrew Jackson.

Produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan through their production company Syncopy, The Odyssey continues the filmmaker’s tradition of combining large-scale spectacle with emotionally driven storytelling.

Following the Oscar-winning success of Oppenheimer, which earned seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, anticipation is already high for Nolan’s latest cinematic event. With an all-star cast, stunning IMAX visuals and one of literature’s greatest adventures at its heart, The Odyssey is shaping up to be one of this year’s biggest releases.
