Guggenheim Abu Dhabi to Open on 11 December 2026 at Saadiyat Cultural District

After years of anticipation, one of the world’s most significant cultural landmarks finally has an opening date. Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will officially welcome visitors on 11 December 2026, marking a defining moment for Abu Dhabi’s cultural landscape and further strengthening Saadiyat Cultural District as one of the world’s leading destinations for art and culture.

Announced by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the museum is set to become the largest Guggenheim in the world and the latest addition to Saadiyat Cultural District, joining renowned institutions including Louvre Abu DhabiteamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, the upcoming Zayed National Museum, and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.

A New Global Home for Modern and Contemporary Art

Designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi has been created to reflect the UAE’s role as a meeting point of cultures while celebrating artistic voices from around the world.

Rather than focusing solely on Western art history, the museum will spotlight modern and contemporary art from West Asia, North Africa and South Asia, placing regional narratives alongside international artistic movements. This approach reflects Abu Dhabi’s vision of creating a more inclusive global dialogue through art.

More Than a Museum

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi has been conceived as a dynamic cultural institution rather than simply an exhibition space.

Alongside its permanent collection, the museum will host major international exhibitions, commissions, performances, educational programmes and public events designed to engage visitors of all ages while fostering artistic exchange and creativity.

A Milestone for Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Vision

The opening represents another major milestone in Abu Dhabi’s long-term investment in arts, heritage and cultural tourism.

Over the past decade, Saadiyat Cultural District has evolved into one of the world’s most ambitious cultural destinations, bringing together globally recognised museums and institutions within a single waterfront district.

With Guggenheim Abu Dhabi opening its doors on 11 December 2026, visitors will soon have the opportunity to experience a museum that not only showcases exceptional art but also reflects Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a global cultural capital.
