Formula 1 Returns to Istanbul in 2027: Turkish Grand Prix Dates Confirmed
Formula 1 is officially returning to Istanbul in 2027, giving motorsport fans another reason to start planning a trip to Türkiye next October.
The Formula 1 Turkish Grand Prix 2027 will take place at TOSFED İstanbul Park from 1 to 3 October 2027, marking the championship’s return to Türkiye after a six-year absence.
Practice and qualifying will take place across 1 and 2 October, before the main race on Sunday, 3 October 2027.
And this isn’t expected to be a one-off return. Formula 1 races are set to be held at İstanbul Park from 2027 through 2031, bringing one of the world’s biggest sporting events back to the city for several consecutive years.
Formula 1 Returns to Türkiye After Six Years
The Turkish Grand Prix has had an on-and-off presence on the Formula 1 calendar since İstanbul Park first hosted the championship.
Its 2027 return will mark the 10th Turkish Grand Prix at the circuit.
Türkiye’s return to Formula 1 was initially announced in April, while the newly released 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar has now confirmed exactly when fans will be able to see the cars back on track.
For travellers, the timing also makes Istanbul an interesting sports tourism destination for autumn 2027, combining a Formula 1 weekend with a city break in one of Türkiye’s most visited destinations.
What Makes İstanbul Park Special?
The Turkish Grand Prix isn’t only notable because of its return.
TOSFED İstanbul Park is widely known as one of the more technically demanding circuits on the Formula 1 calendar.
The track stretches approximately 5.3 kilometres and combines overtaking opportunities with significant elevation changes, creating challenges for both drivers and cars.
But one section in particular has become synonymous with the circuit: Turn 8.
The famous high-speed, multi-apex left-hander requires drivers to maintain balance through several apexes while experiencing significant lateral forces.
The combination of speed, elevation and technical sections has historically made İstanbul Park capable of producing unpredictable racing – something fans will be watching closely when Formula 1 returns in October 2027.
Istanbul Prepares for a Global F1 Audience
Formula 1’s return also puts Istanbul back in front of a huge international sporting audience.
The Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) has already started promoting the race internationally through its “Catch It If You Can” campaign.
According to the announcement, the promotional film has surpassed 571 million views.
Further international media projects, digital campaigns and collaborations with global content creators are planned as Türkiye builds towards the 2027 race.
With Istanbul connecting Europe and Asia and offering everything from historical neighbourhoods and waterfront experiences to a major food and nightlife scene, the Grand Prix could easily become the centrepiece of a longer Istanbul itinerary rather than simply a race-weekend trip.
Turkish Grand Prix Confirmed Through 2031
Perhaps the bigger news for Formula 1 fans is that 2027 represents the beginning of a longer return.
Formula 1 races are scheduled to take place at TOSFED İstanbul Park from 2027 to 2031, organised by the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED).
The return follows efforts by TOSFED alongside support from Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Ministry of Youth and Sports.
That gives travellers multiple opportunities over the coming years to combine Formula 1 with an Istanbul holiday – particularly useful for fans travelling from the UAE and wider GCC.
For now, the first dates to save are 1-3 October 2027, with the main Turkish Grand Prix taking place on Sunday, 3 October.
