Dutch Brothers Racing Promotes Mascot Jagger to ‘Chief Mischief Officer’
Motorsport teams are known for making serious announcements-but Dutch Brothers Racing (DBR) has taken a different approach. The team has officially promoted its beloved mascot Jagger to the newly created role of Chief Mischief Officer (CMO), a title that perfectly reflects his unique contribution to the team.
While the appointment may be tongue-in-cheek, Jagger will continue representing the team at races, sponsor events and public appearances, while taking on an expanded portfolio dedicated to morale, mischief and ensuring the team never takes itself too seriously.
A Promotion Long in the Making
According to DBR, the new title simply formalises responsibilities Jagger has unofficially been carrying out for quite some time.
Commenting on the announcement, Jon De Jager, Chairman, Co-Founder and Driver at Dutch Brothers Racing, said:
“Jagger has consistently demonstrated an ability to insert himself into situations where his involvement adds absolutely no operational value. That kind of consistency deserves recognition. We considered giving him more conventional responsibilities, but fortunately common sense prevailed.”
What Does a Chief Mischief Officer Actually Do?
As Chief Mischief Officer, Jagger’s responsibilities include a rather unconventional job description, such as:
- Maintaining team morale-whether required or not
- Attending important meetings without preparation
- Inspecting race equipment he doesn’t understand
- Maintaining a visible presence in the garage while contributing little to vehicle performance
- Creating low-level disruption at strategically appropriate moments
- Providing independent oversight of all seedless grape supplies
- Protecting the team from taking itself too seriously
Fortunately for fans, Jagger will continue performing his mascot duties at races, sponsor activations, team events and content shoots.
Roommate Approved
DBR Co-Founder and Driver Alan VanderMolen welcomed the appointment with his own humorous endorsement.
“Every serious racing organization needs clear accountability. Jagger is now officially accountable for the mischief. As his roommate, I can confirm he has been preparing for this position around the clock.”
Not Everyone Is Convinced…
While the promotion has certainly boosted morale, DBR Team Manager Andy Boux acknowledged there may be some operational challenges.
“My job is to make the team faster, more disciplined and better prepared. Jagger’s job appears to be almost exactly the opposite. We’ll see how that works.”
A Statement from the New Chief Mischief Officer
Jagger also issued his first official statement following the promotion:
“The title is overdue. The grapes are not.”
Looking Ahead to Yas Marina Circuit
The announcement comes as Dutch Brothers Racing prepares for its first race at Yas Marina Circuit, where the team is building its motorsport journey around performance, precision-and, judging by this announcement, a healthy sense of humour.
As for Jagger’s reporting structure?
According to the team, he will report directly to nobody.
