Al Ghurair Centre’s Pink October 2026: Over 600 Join Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon in Dubai
Al Ghurair Centre in Dubai marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its ‘45,000 Steps of Hope’ community walkathon, bringing together more than 600 participants to support women’s health and the importance of early detection. Organised in partnership with Canadian Specialist Hospital Clinics, the initiative formed part of a two-week Pink October programme that provided free health screenings, fitness classes and awareness activities.
Held during the shopping destination’s 45th anniversary year, the campaign transformed Al Ghurair Centre’s Grand Atrium into a space for community wellness, preventive healthcare and conversations around breast cancer awareness.
Over 600 Participants Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness
The 45,000 Steps of Hope walkathon brought together Dubai residents, families and community members in support of breast cancer awareness.
The initiative connected Al Ghurair Centre’s 45-year history in Deira with a community-focused health campaign, encouraging participants to come together for a meaningful cause.
The walkathon was organised with the support of several partners:
- Canadian Specialist Hospital Clinics: Health partner
- Fitze: Walkathon partner
- Metrofitt: Fitness partner
- Jeanswest: Rewards partner
The event formed part of a wider programme designed to encourage women to prioritise their health and seek preventive medical guidance.
1,100 Women Screened During Pink October
One of the campaign’s key achievements was making health screenings more accessible within a familiar community setting.
According to Al Ghurair Centre, 1,100 women received on-site health screenings, while more than nine fitness sessions were held as part of the programme.
The initiative included free health screenings, medical awareness sessions and wellness activities organised with Canadian Specialist Hospital Clinics.
By bringing healthcare services into the shopping centre, the campaign aimed to make it easier for women to access information and take proactive steps towards their health.
Why Early Breast Cancer Detection Matters
Breast cancer remains a significant women’s health concern in the UAE.
According to figures cited from the UAE National Cancer Registry, breast cancer accounted for 36.6% of invasive cancers diagnosed among women in the UAE in 2023.
Early detection can improve treatment outcomes, making regular screening and awareness particularly important.
Rashed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Canadian Specialist Hospital & Clinics, highlighted the importance of encouraging women to take the first step towards preventive care.
He emphasised regular breast awareness, clinical examinations and mammograms, particularly for women aged 40 and above or those with a family history who may require earlier assessment.
Screening schedules should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional based on individual age, risk factors and medical history.
With Canadian Specialist Hospital Clinics located within Al Ghurair Centre, the partnership also aims to make ongoing medical services more convenient for the surrounding community.
Free Fitness Classes and Wellness Activities at the Grand Atrium
Beyond the walkathon, Al Ghurair Centre hosted a series of Pink October activities at its Grand Atrium.
The programme, which concluded on 31 October 2026, included:
- Free women’s health screenings
- Breast cancer awareness sessions with healthcare professionals
- Complimentary daily fitness classes by Metrofitt
- Wellness activities and community engagement
- Giveaways, vouchers and rewards
The combination of health education, physical activity and community participation encouraged women to engage with preventive healthcare in an accessible environment.
Celebrating 45 Years of Al Ghurair Centre in Dubai
The Pink October initiative also coincided with Al Ghurair Centre’s 45th anniversary.
Located in Deira, Al Ghurair Centre has been part of Dubai’s retail landscape for more than four decades.
Through the walkathon and health programme, the Centre extended its anniversary celebrations beyond shopping and entertainment to include community wellbeing.
Ramy El-Shaarawy, Vice President – Hospitality & Mall at Al Ghurair Centre, reaffirmed the destination’s commitment to supporting women affected by breast cancer and promoting a sense of community.
The initiative reflected a broader effort to make public spaces part of important health and wellness conversations.
