Abu Dhabi to Study How AI Could Transform Sleep Apnoea Care Through New Eight Sleep Partnership

Sleep is one of the most important indicators of overall health, yet conditions such as sleep apnoea remain significantly underdiagnosed worldwide. Looking to advance preventive healthcare through innovation, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has partnered with Eight Sleep to explore how artificial intelligence could help improve the management of sleep apnoea.

The collaboration will see the two organisations conduct a governed clinical study to evaluate how AI-powered sleep technology can support better diagnosis, monitoring and long-term management of the condition, marking Eight Sleep’s first government healthcare partnership.

Using AI to Better Understand Sleep Health

The study will assess how Eight Sleep’s intelligent sleep technology can work alongside Abu Dhabi’s health intelligence infrastructure to support people living with sleep apnoea.

The technology continuously monitors physiological signals such as:

  • Sleep patterns
  • Heart rate
  • Breathing rate
  • Temperature changes

Combined with AI-powered insights and intelligent interventions, researchers will evaluate whether this data can improve sleep apnoea-related outcomes while contributing to more personalised and preventive healthcare.

A New Approach to Preventive Healthcare

Sleep apnoea affects millions of people globally, yet many remain undiagnosed despite the condition being linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other long-term health complications.

By combining continuous sleep data with Abu Dhabi’s digital health ecosystem, the study aims to build clinical evidence for integrating AI-enabled sleep technologies into future healthcare pathways and preventive medicine strategies.

Strengthening Abu Dhabi’s Health Innovation Ecosystem

The partnership reflects Abu Dhabi’s continued investment in digital health, artificial intelligence and precision medicine.

As healthcare increasingly shifts towards early detection and prevention, projects such as this demonstrate how wearable technologies and AI could play an important role in helping clinicians identify health risks earlier while enabling more personalised care.

If successful, the collaboration could open the door to broader applications of AI-powered sleep technology, positioning sleep as a measurable and clinically valuable component of preventive healthcare.
