A New Chapter in Mental Health Care: Peninsula Psychology Opens in Dubai

A modern psychology clinic offering structured, science-based support for individuals and couples.

No person is an island. At most, they’re a peninsula.

It’s a simple idea, but one that feels increasingly relevant in a world where people often carry their struggles quietly and alone.

This philosophy sits at the heart of Peninsula Psychology, a newly opened psychology clinic in Jumeirah Lake Towers. Designed to offer a more grounded and thoughtful approach to mental health care, the clinic brings together experienced practitioners with a shared intent: to make psychological support feel more accessible, more connected, and more aligned with real life.

Conceived as a modern space for individuals and couples, Peninsula Psychology combines evidence-based therapy with clinical professionalism, while placing equal emphasis on the experience of care itself. The approach is structured and science-led, yet deeply personal-shaped around each client’s circumstances, challenges, and goals. Rather than offering quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions, the focus lies in understanding what sits beneath the surface, enabling meaningful and lasting change.

The name “Peninsula” has been chosen with intention. A peninsula is never fully isolated; it remains connected to something larger while being shaped by its surroundings. This idea mirrors the clinic’s relational view of mental health-where therapy becomes a process of moving from isolation towards connection, clarity, and steadier ground. It also reflects the journey of its founder, Rita Figueiredo, whose own path spans from the Iberian Peninsula to the Arabian Peninsula.

Peninsula Psychology offers both individual and couples therapy, with sessions available in person in Dubai or remotely. Its services are designed for adults navigating a wide range of emotional, behavioural, and relational challenges-from anxiety, low mood, and burnout to communication difficulties, perinatal mental health, eating disorders, grief, loss, infidelity, and other complex life experiences. Online sessions follow the same structured, evidence-based framework as in-person consultations, ensuring continuity of care regardless of format.

Founded by Rita Figueiredo, Clinical Psychologist and Managing Director, the clinic is built on a clear point of view: therapy should be effective, transparent, and rooted in well-established psychological models. A CDA-licensed psychologist with over eight years of experience, Rita specialises in couples and family therapy. She holds a master’s degree in Clinical and Health Psychology from the University of Lisbon, along with a postgraduate qualification in couples and family therapy, and is further trained in perinatal mental health. Having supported more than 100 couples in Dubai, she brings both international expertise and strong local insight to her work.

At a time when conversations around wellbeing are evolving across the UAE, Peninsula Psychology enters the landscape as a considered addition-where clinical rigour and genuine human care exist side by side. Whether accessed in person or online, the clinic is designed for those ready to engage deeply with their mental health and work towards meaningful, lasting change.

Social With Shefali is where I open up about the things that inspire me, the practices that keep me grounded, and the experiences that make life feel a little more beautiful. I’m not here to be perfect, polished, or performative. I’m here to be real. To remind myself (and maybe you too) that balance, joy, and chosen connections are worth making space for.
